If you’d like to see the historic Lansdowne Theater for yourself, on November 6th, the doors will be opened for a unique opportunity to peek at a historic landmark that has been left largely unchanged since the 1920s.

For a $10 tax-deductible contribution per person for the tour, you will get to view the public spaces including the grand theater and projection booth. Attendees will also receive a coupon for discounted pints of Yards Beer at 2312 Garrett Restaurant.

The Tours start on Sunday, November 6th from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Lansdowne Theater and the Pours start on Sunday, November 6th from 4:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at 2312 Garrett Restaurant.

Using grants from the Greater Lansdowne Civic Association and a Community Development Building Grant from Delaware County the restoration of the theater marquee has begun.

Project architect Farewell Mills Gatsch took measurements, inspected structural elements, and began the process to develop plans/specifications that will enable the Historic Lansdowne Theater Corporation to bid the project this spring. Individual steel letters that spell LANSDOWNE, long stored in the theater attic, will be restored and relit with their original neon. The restored sign will include energy efficient lighting, but will appear as it has since it installation c. 1940.

Look for the marquee to be fully restored around Labor Day.

The Lansdowne Economic Development Corporation presents the entire roster of performers for the 2010 Lansdowne Summer Concert Series. All four outdoor concerts are free and open to the public. Concerts take place on Thursday evenings at 7 p.m. on the lawn of St. John the Evangelist Episcopal Church (Northwest corner of Baltimore and Lansdowne), and start at 7 pm. In case of inclement weather, performances will be held at Regency Cafe, 29 North Lansdowne Ave.

Straight No Chaser is a ten-member a cappella group that got its start a dozen years ago at Indiana University. The all-male group reconvened in 2008 to release the album Holiday Spirits, which reached number 1 on iTunes, led to TV and radio appearances, and ultimately changed the young men’s lives. They’ve given up their day jobs, are working on a pop album, and are in the midst of an expansive cross-country tour, which now includes Lansdowne.

Tickets go on sale at Ticketmaster starting at 10:00 a.m. on March 4th and at Regency Café and Cinema 16:9 on March 5th.

The Lansdowne Theater is located at 31 North Lansdowne Avenue, one block north of Baltimore and Lansdowne Avenues in Lansdowne, PA. The theater is within easy walking distance of the Lansdowne Railroad Station (the R3 line) and is served by several bus lines. Parking is available across the street from the theater on Lansdowne Avenue and behind the theater on Highland Avenue.
