A Taste of Lansdowne

The Steering Committee of the Lansdowne Arts Festival cordially invites you and a guest to the “A Taste of Lansdowne” Pre-Show Reception and Art Sale featuring delicacies from our town!

The event will be at the Twentieth Century Club located at 84 South Lansdowne Avenue, Lansdowne, Pennsylvania. For $25 per person or $50 per couple, on Friday, September 9, 2011 between 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., you get to savor Hors d’oeuvres, the Champagne Bar, Crudités and the Water Bar.

We needed change – and now, recently mounted in our hallway is the 1955 Andy Warhol, Butterflies poster. We picked this up from Room and Board during our last trip to their new store in Washington D.C.

A new business has just opened in downtown Lansdowne – Art Space Lansdowne. According to the website, Art Space Lansdowne’s mission is “To provide a comfortable, inspirational environment for artists, art instructors, and art students to create, learn and share their knowledge and love of all things artistic”.

Art Space Lansdowne will offer three valuable and important services for the arts community:

Hourly Rentals of classroom space to teach art to students or use to create your art.
Art classes that are facilitated and advertised by Art Space Lansdowne.
Art events such as First Fridays, wine and cheese receptions, and art brunches. Events held at Art Space Lansdowne will offer artists a year-round venue to sell their art.

Herman Miller Platform Bench

We recently welcomed a new resident to our home – a George Nelson creation. For those that do know George Nelson – no further explanation is required. For others, George Nelson is considered as one of the founders of American Modernism. According to Wikipedia, George Nelson was without any doubt one of the most articulate and one of the most eloquent voices on design and architecture in the U.S.A. of the 20th century.

So what did we get? The Herman Miller Platform Bench.

Lansdowne Symphony Orchestra

Founded in 1946, the Lansdowne Symphony Orchestra (LSO) is one of the oldest community orchestras in the Greater Philadelphia area. Celebrating more than 60 years of music-making, its season runs from October to April. This year the orchestra will present five concerts under the leadership of Irving Ludwig, music director since 1991. Mr. Ludwig brings to the podium his many years of experience as a violinist with the Philadelphia Orchestra. Although the talented musicians who form the core of the 75+ members of the LSO come from many walks of life, they all share a strong love of music. The repertoire includes orchestral music from the Baroque through contemporary classics, including time-honored favorites and interesting rarities.
